St. Rose of Lima is the patron saint of Peru. She was known for her beauty and marred her face by rubbing pepper on it and chopped her hair off. At an early age she knew she belonged to God and wanted to become a nun. She became a Dominican and lived a life of intense prayer, penance, and fasting. St. Rose's feast day is August 23rd.
